Yes, I can accept most of what you say there.

The key point, however, is that Judaea was under foreign occupation.

Paying taxes to foreigners was no doubt odious and if that episode in the gospels ever really happened, he may well have tried to express his opposition in a subtle way.

But then turn to Numbers 18:21-26, where God hismelf (supposedly) commands a tenth of produce of the land as tithes to be paid to the Levites and a tenth of the tenth to himself.

Then at Exodus 30:11-16 there is a divine command for the temple tax of a half shekel.

These are collectivist tax payments for a public good.

So I don't see how anyone can claim that God in the Old testment opposes taxes.
